Hi guys,
In class one we began with two role plays to practise the inverted conditionals that we learned about last week. We then checked the homework on page 48-49 and page 51. Moving on to the main part of today’s class, we turned to the listening exam task on page 52. Students worked in pairs to brainstorm language associated with each of the activities stated in task one of the exam practice. We shared our thoughts and discussed how to express the feelings in task two. We then competed the exam task and checked answers.
Homework: Please complete exercise 3 on page 50.
In class two we started a new topic- Green Issues. We began with a video from the animator Steve Cutts.
Students noted down all the problems they could see with regards to how the environment is treated, and then completed activity 2 on page 56. We then spoke about the problems from the video and the activity, and put them into order of how serious they were, and how easily they could be solved. Following this we completed the listening exam task on page 56.
We then completed a speaking part 3 exam task in pairs, followed by a group discussion of questions from part 4.
Homework:
You attended a college debate that discussed ways of encouraging more people to be more environmentally friendly in their energy use and production. You have made the notes below:
How can we take the initiative with regards to the protection of the climate?
- Increase taxes for big polluters
- Expand and improve public transport
- Promote green living on a local level
Some opinions expressed during the debate:
«Governments should be discouraging pollution by hitting big business with even bigger taxes!»
«We need fewer cars on the road, and greener buses and trains.»
«It’s not just the responsibility of big business and government, the individual has to help!»
Write an essay, discussing two of the ideas in your notes. You should explain which idea would help protect the environment most, giving reasons in support of your answer.
You may, if you wish, make use of the opinions expressed in the debate, but you should use your own words as far as possible.
Write your answer in 220-260 words in the appropriate style.
