Hi guys,

Today we will talk about how we consume the news, and the problems of fake news. We will play a Kahoot to learn collocations associated with the media and the news, and complete exercise 1 on page 11 and exercise 2 on page 12. In pairs we will also exam task on page 12 of the course book. To finish the class we will play dictionary based on the collocations we have studied today.

Afterwards students will work in groups to discuss the following part 4 speaking questions: 

  1. What attracts people to work in the media?
  2. Some media personalities become very famous. What problems can this bring? 
  3. What influence can celebrities have on young people? Is this positive or negative? Why? 
  4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a large number of television channels to choose from?
  5. The news is now available 24 hours a day. Do you think this is a good thing? Why? / Why not?

We will finish class with a Kahoot.

  • The involvement of the public in reporting news
  • The immediacy of the the news

  1. With so many news websites it’s difficult to know which ones are telling the truth.
  2. Anybody with a mobile phone can submit a story to a news channel.
  3. The internet means the public can consume news the moment it breaks.

Write your essay discussing two of the options, choosing one as being most affected by new technology. Write your answer in 220-260 words.
