Today we will focus on report writing. Since Halloween is not far away we will focus on the topic of festivals. We will discuss festivals in both the UK and Spain, and how they are celebrated.

We’ll then look at an example question and how to structure and answer it.

We will finish part 1 with a Kahoot to learn useful phrases for report writing.

In part 2 we will focus on practice for part 2 of the speaking exam (pages 24-25). We will look at exercises 2 and 7 to revise the vocabulary connected to the photos, and complete the sentences in exercise 4 which show comparison and speculation. We will also look at exercises 4 and 5 on page 208.

Students will then work in pairs to practice answering the questions on pages 24-25.

Homework:

1)Complete the following CAE report question:

In your English class you have been discussing festivals around the world. Your tutor has asked you to write a report on a popular festival in your country that may interest other students. Your report should:

  • Describe the event, saying where and when it takes place
  • Say how popular it is and why
  • Outline some changes you think should be made

Write your report in 220-260 words in an appropriate style.

2) Complete the RUE part 6 exam practice on pages 22-23
