Hi guys, I hope you all had a great weekend! Here is the plan for this week:

Class one:

We will begin by correcting the homework about cleft sentences, and clarifying any doubts. We will then put this grammar into practice with a speaking activity. Following on, students will work together to create ‘stock sentences’ that can be used in a variety of written exam tasks. To finish off the class we will To finish the class we are going to complete the listening task on page 126.

Class two:

In class two we are going to look at a skill the British people have mastered: the art of complaining politely! We will begin with a general discussion in groups about complaints, before looking at some fantastic language to use when complaining- this could be used verbally or in a written task. Students will work in pairs to complete two hotel role plays, in which a guest is complaining to hotel staff. To finish the class we will look at a letter of complaint and how to structure it appropriately.

Question

You recently took a self-catering holiday in a luxury apartment, but the standard of the accommodation was very poor. The holiday company that you booked with has offered you some vouchers as compensation, but you have decided you would prefer a cash refund instead, since you have no intention of using the company again. Write a letter to the company outlining the problems you experienced with the accommodation and the action you want them to take.

Write the letter to the company (around 220 – 260 words).
