Hi guys,

Today in class we will focus on speaking part 1 and Reading and Use of English part 4. 

We will begin by answering the questions in exercise 1 on page 15 before studying collocations with the verbs ‘make’ and ‘give’ : Quizlet Live . 

Following on we’ll look at page 14 of the course book, and how to complete part 4 of the use of English exam. We will look at the 5 examples in exercise 1  together as a class, and then students will complete exercise 2 on page 15 in pairs following the technique we have learned.

In part two we will look at listening part 1 and speaking parts 3 and 4. 

We will discuss language learning, why English is so important nowadays, and techniques to learn a new language. We will then complete the listening task on page 19.

Next, students will work together to complete a speaking part 3 task, and then the following speaking part 4 questions:

  • How important is it nowadays to speak more than one language? Why?
  • Do you think that some languages or regional dialects are dying? Do you think they should be preserved?
  • Some people think that one day there will be just one language in the world. Do you agree with this? Would the world be a better place?
  • How do you think the world would be different if there was only one language?
  • Some people say learning a foreign language is pointless, due to the rapid advancements of translation technology. What do you think about this?
