Tuesday 18th / Wednesday 19th

Today we will start a new topic in the book. It’s all about sport, so we will begin with some speaking practice to start us off.

  1. What is your favourite sport to watch or play? Why?
  2. Have you ever attended a live sporting event? Which one(s)? What was your experience like?
  3. What is the most popular sport in your country? Why do you think it is so popular?
  4. How important is it for children to play sports? 
  5. What are some benefits of playing sports? Do you think there are any drawbacks?
  6. What do you think are some of the biggest challenges facing professional athletes today?
  7. How do you think technology has changed the way we play and watch sports?
  8. Do you think it is fair for athletes to earn such high salaries? Why or why not?

We will then revise word formation to help students with part 3 of the RUE exam. In particular we will learn about  en as a prefix or suffix. (Page 132)

Part 4 questions:

  • How can sports impact a country’s economy, culture, and social fabric?
  • How can sports be used as a tool for education and personal growth?
  • What role do sports play in the development of a person’s physical, mental, and emotional health?
  • What impact has the media had on sports, and how has the coverage of sports changed over time?
  • How has technology influenced the world of sports, from training and equipment to broadcasting and fan engagement?

Homework:

  • Watch the Grammar on the Move video about substitution and ellipsis, and complete exercises 1,2,3 and 4 on pages 134-135
  • Complete the essay task below
