Today we are going to focus on essay writing. To start off we will work in pairs to design The Best Friend. We will also watch a video and talk about friendships during the teenage years.

  1. How would you define a «perfect» friend? What qualities do you think are most important in a friendship during adolescence compared to during childhood?
  2. In what ways do friendships during adolescence influence a teenager’s identity? Provide examples. 
  3. How can friendships both positively and negatively influence decisions made by teenagers? Share your thoughts on the concept of peer pressure.
  4. How do friendships change during the teenage years? What factors contribute to these changes?
  5. What role does social media play in shaping friendships during the teenage years? Do you think it enhances or hinders genuine connections? Why?

We will then examine the task and example answer on pages 20-21. We will discuss the conventions of the task and how to structure our work. We’ll reference the CAE writing guide too.

Thursday

Today we will start with a video about how social media began: Social media: How it all began – BBC What’s New? Then we will compare our perception of it to that of older generations. 

First off we will revise negative prefixes and what they mean, by completing exercises 1-3 on page 18. We will then focus on identifying word forms in exercise 1 on page 21. We will look at the example exam practice on page 21 together and cover exam technique.
